First Community Foundation to Announce Build 150 Matching grants

On November 15th, 2019 the Rivers and Area Community Foundation held their 10th anniversary granting event in conjunction with the Manitoba Build 150 Matching grants.

We are the first Community Foundation in Manitoba to announce the Manitoba Build 150 Grants. They were matched 1:1 to 11 grant recipients. These grants will be used for “Bricks and Mortar” type projects, that will provide a lasting memory for Manitoba’s 150th Birthday.

The theme of the evening was “Made in Manitoba”. The tables were decorated with black tablecloths and gold charger plates. The plates provided a showcase for  vases filled with various types of locally produced grains (courtesy of Redsper Enterprises)and a Manitoba Flag. The refreshments included Manitoba made Tall Grass Vodka, Crown Royal from Gimli , Farmery Beer from Neepawa and Grey Ridge Coffee from Brandon. There were three raffle items which included a Wheat Kings Jersey and game tickets courtesy of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Two Manitoba Made Baskets filled with all Manitoba Made products from La Cocina Tortilla Chips to Bakers Narrows Fish Batter to Utoffeea treats from East St. Paul. The munchies provided were also all Manitoba made products with the dill pickles, buns and their famous sticky buns from the Deerboine Hutterite Colony, the various types of meats came from East 40 Meats of Brandon, La Cocina tortilla chips from Ste. Anne’s , the Chocolate Trains were from Mordens Chocolates in Winnipeg, with the Bothwell Cheese courtesy of Genesis Hospitality of Brandon.

Two different rounds of Manitoba Trivia kept the people in attendance scratching their heads to come up with the “Made in Manitoba” answers!  The Directors of the RACFoundation board came up with the Trivia questions and answers, as well as the “ Made in Manitoba” theme. Our directors and Lorrie Dyer, and Marguerite Lapka Woytowich decorated the Behlen Curling Lounge for the event, with Al MacDonald from the curling club serving as the bar tender. Founder and Past Director Al Morken worked at the raffle tickets area.

16 Grants were handed out and all in attendance heard “our story”  and the stories about the projects the recipients were working on. These grants  show the diverse projects our community works on.

Happy 10th Anniversary to Rivers and Area..over  $161,000 to our area in the last 10 years!
